Trainline stock holds its FY2027 outlook after the company reported GBP 3.263 billion in net ticket sales for the six months ended August 31, 2026. The latest trading update, published on September 19, 2026, also showed underlying revenue of GBP 233 million, down 1 percent from GBP 235 million a year earlier, while Trainline announced a new GBP 100 million share buyback.

Revenue falls as ticket sales hold

According to Trainline plc, UK Consumer net ticket sales were GBP 2.136 billion in H1 FY2027, compared with GBP 2.127 billion in H1 FY2026. International Consumer sales declined 3 percent to GBP 579 million, while Trainline Solutions sales increased 4 percent to GBP 548 million.

The mix explains the pressure on group revenue. UK Consumer underlying revenue fell 5 percent to GBP 102 million as an industry refund-policy change reduced refund-related fees, while Trainline Solutions underlying revenue rose 3 percent to GBP 97 million.

Buyback supports capital allocation

Trainline reaffirmed FY2027 guidance for net ticket sales of GBP 6.2 billion to GBP 6.45 billion, underlying revenue of GBP 440 million to GBP 455 million, and an adjusted EBITDA margin of 2.9 percent of net ticket sales. International Consumer is expected to reach breakeven during the financial year, according to Trainline plc.

The company said the new buyback will begin after the previous program ends and run for 12 months. Since September 2023, Trainline has repurchased and canceled GBP 350 million of ordinary shares, equal to 28 percent of the issued share capital at the start of that program.

Results date sets next checkpoint

The next hard date is November 4, 2026, when Trainline plans to publish its first-half FY2027 results and hold an analyst presentation. The company also said its digital railcard user base grew 26 percent year over year to more than three million in the first half, adding an operating growth indicator alongside the revenue figures.

For investors, the key tension is visible in the comparison: Solutions underlying revenue grew 3 percent, but group underlying revenue declined 1 percent. The November report will show whether business-to-business expansion can offset lower UK refund-related revenue.
