TotalEnergies has signed a heads of agreement with Jiangsu Guoxin Group for the delivery of 900,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year to China. The company announced the agreement on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in a release issued from Paris and Shanghai. The arrangement is subject to finalizing the sales and purchase agreements.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028 and continue for 15 years. The LNG will go to Jiangsu Guoxin's new terminal in Rudong, where it is intended for city gas supply and flexible power generation. Jiangsu is China's second-largest province by gross domestic product and natural gas consumption, according to TotalEnergies.

Long-term LNG demand in China

The agreement expands TotalEnergies' long-term LNG sales portfolio in China, one of the world's largest and fastest-growing LNG markets. It also gives the group a future outlet for supply in a province where demand for reliable gas is tied to industrial activity and peak electricity needs.

Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President, LNG at TotalEnergies, said the agreement reflected the strength of the company's integrated LNG model and its ability to build long-term partnerships with Chinese counterparties. He also described the global portfolio as resilient enough to continue delivering LNG despite major disruptions during 2026.

Jiangsu Guoxin Deputy General Manager Zhang Wenxiang said the partnership should strengthen the group's gas supply security and improve the operating efficiency of its infrastructure. He also linked the project to Jiangsu's energy security strategy and its carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.

Portfolio scale supports strategy

TotalEnergies describes itself as the world's third-largest LNG player, with a global portfolio of 44 million tonnes in 2025. Its LNG position spans production, transportation, regasification, trading and LNG bunkering. The company says it had access to more than 20 million tonnes per year of regasification capacity in Europe.

The announcement follows TotalEnergies' third-quarter results published on October 29. The company reported adjusted net income of 9.1 billion US dollars and cash flow of 12.3 billion US dollars, while gearing fell below 10 percent. It maintained an interim dividend of 0.90 euros per share and authorized 2.5 billion US dollars of share buybacks for the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027. Those measures provide a broader shareholder-return backdrop as investors assess the group's LNG expansion.

TotalEnergies stock traded at 82.76 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:38 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The real-time quote of TotalEnergies stock is available separately.
