Tokio Marine HCC International and UK broker Adrian Flux launched a home insurance policy for domestic humanoid robots on October 30, 2026. Insurance Business reported that the product is available through Adrian Flux and underwritten by Tokio Marine HCC International.

Coverage targets emerging household risks

The policy covers damage to and theft of the robot, as well as sudden damage the device causes to a home or belongings. It also includes personal liability if the robot injures someone or damages another person's property.

Emergency recovery or safe disablement after a sudden or unforeseen malfunction is included. The companies describe the product as the UK's first home insurance cover for domestic humanoid robots and say it appears to be the first policy worldwide to protect both the home and the robot.

Market remains at an early stage

The product is aimed at a developing risk pool rather than an established mass market. Domestic humanoid robots are expected to enter UK homes from 2027, while early US home models are available for pre-order at prices of around 20,000 US dollars, according to Insurance Business.

For Tokio Marine, the launch broadens the specialty-insurance discussion around expensive, connected and autonomous devices. The policy also highlights liability questions that may involve the owner, manufacturer or software provider when a robot damages property or injures a person.

Stuart Heath, head of distribution, international at Tokio Marine HCC International, said a robot costing thousands of pounds should not sit outside an insurance policy. Adrian Flux general manager Gerry Bucke said the product was intended to clarify responsibility and would evolve as the technology and risks develop.
