- Tokio Marine HCC International underwrites UK cover distributed through Adrian Flux.
- The policy addresses robot damage, theft, liability and emergency shutdown after malfunctions.
- Domestic humanoid robots are expected to enter UK homes from 2027.
Tokio Marine HCC International and UK broker Adrian Flux launched a household insurance policy for domestic humanoid robots on October 30, 2026. The product adds a specialist insurance angle to Tokio Marine's expansion into emerging technology risks, according to Insurance Business.
The Tokio Marine stock traded at 3.27 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 15:35 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. That was 2.19 percent above the 3.20-euro level cited in the October 29 report, a separate comparison from any Xetra daily close.
Insurance targets an emerging household risk
The cover is available through Adrian Flux's home insurance offering and is underwritten by Tokio Marine HCC International. It covers damage to and theft of the robot, along with sudden damage the machine causes to a home or belongings.
The policy also includes personal liability if a robot injures someone or damages another person's property. Emergency recovery or safe disablement is covered after a sudden or unforeseen malfunction.
The companies describe the product as the UK's first home insurance cover for domestic humanoid robots and say it appears to be the world's first policy to protect both the home and the robot. They expect domestic robots to start appearing in UK households from 2027, while early US models are available for pre-order at prices around 20,000 US dollars.
Liability remains the central question
Robot-related claims could involve the owner, manufacturer or software provider, depending on whether the cause is misuse, a design fault, outdated software or a malfunction. That uncertainty gives insurers a role in defining how connected and autonomous devices fit into household policies.
The launch has limited immediate earnings significance because humanoid robots are not yet common in UK homes. For Tokio Marine, however, the product offers an early view of how specialty insurance may adapt as expensive AI-enabled devices move into residential settings.
