Romania has selected Thales for four mobile precision approach and landing radar systems in a contract signed on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The Romanian Ministry of National Defence said the agreement with Thales Romania and Thales LAS France is worth 326.5 million Romanian lei excluding VAT.
The ministry said deliveries will take place in phases starting in 2028. The systems are intended to identify and track aircraft and guide them during approach and landing, including in difficult weather and hostile electromagnetic environments. They will support both military and civilian aircraft and transmit information to Romanian and NATO air command and control systems.
Mobile Systems Add Defense Visibility
The contract expands Thales' exposure to Romanian defense modernization while adding a multi-year program to its order pipeline. The mobile configuration is designed to operate from alternative locations, reducing reliance on fixed air-base infrastructure and increasing operational flexibility, according to the ministry.
