- Target is using an AI shopping assistant and more than 8,000 new gifts to sharpen its holiday offer.
- Daily promotions begin November 1, followed by early Black Friday deals from November 5 through November 7.
- The Threshold home brand is being expanded with more than 800 items as Target seeks stronger value and style credentials.
Target is entering the holiday season with two merchandising initiatives that put value, exclusivity and digital discovery at the center of its retail strategy.
Retail TouchPoints reported on October 26 that Target has launched Ask Target in beta on Target.com and its app. The AI shopping assistant is designed to help shoppers find gift ideas and narrow product choices. Target is also offering more than 8,000 new holiday gifts, with more than half exclusive to the retailer.
Promotions start before Black Friday
The holiday campaign includes a Deal of the Day from November 1 through December 24. Early Black Friday offers are scheduled for November 5 through November 7, followed by additional limited-time promotions during the season. The assortment emphasizes lower-priced gifting, including thousands of items priced at 5 US dollars or less, according to Retail TouchPoints.
For investors, the strategy shows Target leaning on owned brands, digital tools and frequent promotions to compete for value-conscious holiday spending. The commercial test will be whether broader discovery and sharper price points translate into stronger traffic and basket size.
Threshold expands the home offer
RTTNews reported on October 27 that Target added more than 800 products to Threshold, its nearly 3 billion US dollar owned home brand. The company said refreshed products such as throws, decorative accessories and candles were registering double-digit growth, while store presentation tests produced mid-single-digit lifts in sales and units.
The Threshold changes give Target a second retail lever ahead of the holidays. A broader design range, improved presentation and lower everyday prices are intended to strengthen a category Target has identified as important to its longer-term turnaround.
