- Takeda reported first-half revenue growth at actual exchange rates, while constant-currency revenue declined.
- The company raised its FY2026 forecasts mainly because of foreign-exchange benefits.
- New launches and pipeline advances remain central to Takeda's growth strategy.
Takeda reported its FY2026 first-half results on Thursday, October 29, covering the six months ended September 30. In its release, the Japanese pharmaceutical company highlighted stronger reported earnings, progress with new medicines and a higher full-year forecast.
Revenue benefits from currency
Revenue reached JPY 2,407.0 billion, up 8.4 percent from the prior-year period at actual exchange rates. At constant exchange rates, revenue declined 1.0 percent, showing that currency translation was a major contributor to the reported increase.
Reported operating profit rose 60.4 percent to JPY 406.7 billion, while net profit climbed 171.8 percent to JPY 305.6 billion. Takeda attributed the improvement in reported operating profit partly to the end of amortization for VYVANSE intangible assets and lower impairment charges.
On a core, non-IFRS basis, operating profit increased 11.2 percent at actual exchange rates to JPY 710.6 billion and rose 0.7 percent at constant exchange rates. Core earnings per share reached JPY 308, up 10.5 percent at actual exchange rates but down 1.2 percent at constant exchange rates. Adjusted free cash flow fell to JPY 325.7 billion from JPY 525.4 billion.
Full-year forecasts move higher
Takeda raised its FY2026 forecast mainly because of foreign-exchange benefits. Revenue guidance increased to JPY 4,700.0 billion from JPY 4,640.0 billion, while operating profit guidance rose to JPY 453.0 billion from JPY 420.0 billion.
Core operating profit guidance moved to JPY 1,190.0 billion from JPY 1,160.0 billion. Net profit guidance increased to JPY 209.0 billion from JPY 166.0 billion, and core earnings-per-share guidance rose to JPY 482 from JPY 472. The company maintained its annual dividend forecast at JPY 204 per share. At constant exchange rates, Takeda still expects a low-single-digit revenue decline and a mid-single-digit decline in core operating profit.
New medicines carry the growth case
Takeda said ORZEYFUL, an orexin receptor agonist for narcolepsy type 1, was approved in the United States, Japan and China. The treatment launched in Japan and China on October 15, while its U.S. launch remains subject to Drug Enforcement Administration scheduling. MIMRYLO, a treatment for erythrocytosis in polycythemia vera, launched in the United States in August.
The company also reported that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration accepted the zasocitinib application under Priority Review and that the European Medicines Agency is reviewing the application. Takeda said Phase 3 results strengthened the clinical evidence for the psoriasis treatment, which remains subject to regulatory approval.
Chief Executive Julie Kim said the launches, the zasocitinib review and positive Phase 3 data marked an important point in Takeda's two-horizon growth strategy. Chief Financial Officer Milano Furuta said transformation savings were being reinvested in product launches and the research pipeline.
Next milestone is in December
Takeda plans to hold a Capital Markets Day in Tokyo on December 11, 2026. The event is expected to give investors more detail on the company's growth strategy and the commercial rollout of its newer medicines.
The broader U.S. market context is available through the S&P 500.
