Takeda reported first-half fiscal 2026 results on Thursday, October 29, covering the six months ended September 30. In its official release, the Japanese pharmaceutical group said new launches, regulatory progress and transformation savings supported execution against its near-term strategy.
Reported revenue reached JPY 2,407.0 billion, up 8.4% from the prior-year period at actual exchange rates. At constant exchange rates, revenue fell 1.0%. Core operating profit, Takeda's non-IFRS measure, increased 11.2% at actual exchange rates to JPY 710.6 billion and rose 0.7% at constant exchange rates.
Forecast benefits from currency
Takeda raised its FY2026 forecast mainly to reflect foreign-exchange benefits. Revenue is now expected at JPY 4,700.0 billion, compared with JPY 4,640.0 billion previously. The core operating profit forecast increased from JPY 1,160.0 billion to JPY 1,190.0 billion, while reported net profit is forecast at JPY 209.0 billion, up from JPY 166.0 billion.
Adjusted free cash flow guidance also moved higher, to a range of JPY 700.0 billion to JPY 800.0 billion from JPY 650.0 billion to JPY 750.0 billion. The company maintained its core revenue framework of a low-single-digit percentage decline at constant exchange rates. The revised outlook therefore improves absolute targets without changing the underlying constant-currency top-line direction.
First-half cash generation was weaker than a year earlier. Operating cash flow was JPY 431.9 billion, compared with JPY 593.7 billion in the prior-year period, while adjusted free cash flow was JPY 325.7 billion versus JPY 525.4 billion. Takeda attributed the pressure in part to a reduction in trade-receivables factoring and a payment to Protagonist related to the decision to opt out of MIMRYLO co-commercialization in the United States.
Launches shape the next phase
ORZEYFUL, Takeda's orexin receptor agonist for narcolepsy type 1, was approved in the United States, Japan and China. It became available in Japan and China on October 15, while the US launch remains subject to Drug Enforcement Administration scheduling and is expected in early November.
MIMRYLO, a hepcidin mimetic for erythrocytosis in adults with polycythemia vera, launched in the United States in August. Zasocitinib advanced after the US Food and Drug Administration accepted its application for Priority Review; the European Medicines Agency is also reviewing the application. The candidate remains subject to regulatory approval.
