Synopsys remains in focus after S&P Global Ratings upgraded the electronic design automation provider and its senior unsecured debt to BBB+ from BBB on Monday, October 26, 2026. The rating agency assigned a stable outlook and said its view had improved after Synopsys presented new long-term guidance at its recent analyst day.

Higher growth assumptions support rating

S&P raised its annual revenue growth expectations for 2027 through 2029 to the mid-teens percentage range from around 10%. Its forecast for Synopsys' 2029 EBITDA margin increased to 49% from 45%, reflecting higher confidence in the durability of the company's operating performance.

The agency said management is targeting roughly 15% annual revenue growth through 2030 while expanding operating margins toward 50%. S&P also pointed to the company's silicon-to-systems strategy, which combines electronic design automation, design intellectual property and simulation software as engineering complexity rises.

AI demand meets Ansys execution

S&P described artificial intelligence as a potential demand accelerator for Synopsys. More AI-driven design iterations can increase the use of verification, simulation and other core tools, while new AI offerings and partnerships may add monetization opportunities.

The rating report also said Synopsys' Ansys integration was ahead of plan. Cost synergies are expected to reach 400 million US dollars by fiscal 2027, one year earlier than previously scheduled. The combination of revenue synergies, AI monetization, higher-margin software and royalty income provides the main support for the improved long-term credit view.

For investors, the upgrade strengthens the financial backdrop but does not remove execution risks. S&P said a large acquisition with little EBITDA or a sharper-than-expected displacement of established tools by AI and open-source alternatives could pressure the rating. The agency also noted that Synopsys has not reiterated its goal of keeping net leverage below 1x while increasing shareholder returns.
