Synopsys stock is in focus after S&P Global Ratings raised the company and its senior unsecured debt to BBB+ from BBB on October 26, 2026. The rating agency assigned a stable outlook, citing Synopsys' strong market position, a growing earnings base and the potential for leverage reduction.
Synopsys stock traded at 405.25 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:33:38 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. The quote provides a current trading reference, while the rating action gives investors a longer-term view of the company's financial capacity and operating prospects.
Higher growth assumptions underpin upgrade
S&P said Synopsys' analyst day guidance gave it greater confidence in the durability of future operating performance. The agency lifted its annual revenue-growth expectations for 2027 through 2029 to the mid-teens percentage range from about 10% previously. It also raised its 2029 EBITDA margin forecast to 49% from 45%.
The rating report said management is targeting about 15% annual revenue growth through 2030 and operating margins of 50%. S&P's base case forecasts revenue of 9.718 billion US dollars for fiscal 2026, rising to 14.510 billion US dollars in 2029. Its adjusted EBITDA margin forecast increases from 44.7% in 2026 to 49.1% in 2029.
Ansys and AI drive the investment case
The integration of Ansys remains a central operating lever. S&P expects cost synergies to reach 400 million US dollars by fiscal 2027, one year earlier than previously scheduled. The agency also highlighted revenue synergies, higher-margin software and royalty income as potential contributors to growth and margin expansion.
Artificial intelligence is framed as a demand accelerator rather than an immediate replacement threat. More AI-driven design iterations can increase demand for verification, simulation and other core tools. Synopsys is also developing new AI offerings and usage-based pricing, while an OpenAI partnership and an application-optimized intellectual-property agreement with Amazon create additional monetization opportunities.
S&P said Synopsys may be more resilient to AI disruption than broad software peers because its physics-based products require reliability, specialist expertise and integration with foundry process requirements. The agency nevertheless identified risks from expensive acquisitions with limited or negative EBITDA and from faster substitution by AI or open-source electronic design automation tools.
Credit headroom remains conditional
The stable outlook reflects the company's market position, the potential for leverage reduction as EBITDA expands and room for small to midsize acquisitions. S&P said a downgrade could follow if leverage stays above 2.5 times, while an upgrade would require sustained leverage below 2 times and greater cushion for future acquisitions.
For investors, the rating action strengthens the financial backdrop but does not remove execution risk. The next focus is whether Synopsys can convert AI-related demand, Ansys integration and design-IP growth into the operating margins and cash generation assumed by the rating agency.
