Record Cash Flow Lifts Distributions
Suncor released its third-quarter results on Tuesday, November 3, after the market close. The Suncor Energy third-quarter release reported adjusted funds from operations of 6.705 billion Canadian dollars, up from 3.831 billion Canadian dollars in the prior-year quarter. Free funds flow reached 5.196 billion Canadian dollars, compared with 2.347 billion Canadian dollars a year earlier.
Net earnings rose to 3.814 billion Canadian dollars from 1.619 billion Canadian dollars. Adjusted operating earnings, a non-GAAP measure, increased to 4.631 billion Canadian dollars from 1.794 billion Canadian dollars. The release said higher upstream price realizations, stronger downstream margins and higher-value export sales supported the result. A non-cash impairment of 1.080 billion Canadian dollars related to the planned offshore divestment affected reported earnings.

Suncor returned 2.048 billion Canadian dollars to shareholders during the quarter through buybacks and dividends. Beginning in October, planned monthly repurchases increased to 750 million Canadian dollars from 500 million Canadian dollars, with projected 2026 repurchases of 5.5 billion Canadian dollars. The board also approved a quarterly dividend of 0.66 Canadian dollars per share, 10 percent above the previous payment.
Upstream production averaged 852,500 barrels per day, while refinery crude throughput reached 487,700 barrels per day. Refined product sales set a third-quarter record at 676,900 barrels per day. Net debt stood at 1.751 billion Canadian dollars on September 30, down from 7.147 billion Canadian dollars a year earlier.
Suncor agreed to sell its interests in Terra Nova, White Rose and West White Rose for 1.2 billion Canadian dollars plus contingent consideration of up to 350 million Canadian dollars.
