Solvay reported weaker third-quarter results on Wednesday, November 4, after the Middle East conflict and weak soda ash markets weighed on operations. The company also announced a long-term rare-earth feedstock agreement with Viridis, adding a new strategic element to the results.

Q3 earnings reflect operational pressure

According to MarketScreener, underlying net sales fell 3.3 percent organically to 1,031 million euros in the third quarter. Underlying EBITDA declined 26.6 percent organically to 173 million euros, with the Middle East conflict reducing EBITDA by about 25 million euros and the prior-year period benefiting from approximately 40 million euros in proceeds from carbon-emissions rights.

Underlying net profit from continuing operations fell to 35 million euros from 90 million euros a year earlier. Solvay said the temporary shutdown of its peroxide plant at the Sadara complex in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, remained a material short-term headwind.

Rare-earth supply chain gains support

Solvay signed a long-term agreement with Viridis to secure rare-earth feedstock for its La Rochelle plant from 2028. The agreement is intended to strengthen supply for the separation business, while discussions with OneIM over a potential joint venture remain ongoing and do not yet constitute a definitive transaction.

The company said the activities under discussion with OneIM generate approximately 80 million euros of underlying EBITDA annually. Solvay is also targeting cumulative structural cost savings of 300 million euros by the end of 2026.

Outlook remains under review

Solvay maintained its revised 2026 outlook for underlying EBITDA of 720 million to 740 million euros and free cash flow of 120 million to 150 million euros, net of transformation expenses. The board approved an interim gross dividend of 0.97 euros per share, payable on January 20, 2027.

Solvay stock traded at 24.39 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 18:09 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026; the real-time quote of Solvay stock is available to investors.
