- Singtel sold its 3.98% Far EasTone holding in an on-market transaction.
- The company expects a reported gain from the sale to enter the first quarter ending June 30.
- The divestment adds a capital-allocation signal to Singtel's telecom and infrastructure strategy.
Singapore Telecommunications confirmed on Friday, October 30, that it had divested its 3.98% stake in Taiwan's Far EasTone Telecommunications. The Edge Malaysia reported on Monday, November 2, that the on-market sale generated proceeds of T$8.03 billion, equivalent to US$339.3 million.
What the transaction adds
Singtel said it expects a gain of about US$118 million from the disposal. The gain is expected to be reflected in the first quarter ending June 30, giving investors a separate earnings factor alongside the group's recurring telecommunications and digital-infrastructure operations.
The sale converts a minority investment into cash and reduces Singtel's exposure to Far EasTone. That supports a more active capital-allocation reading of the transaction, while the reported gain should not be treated as recurring operating revenue.
The transaction details were reported by The Edge Malaysia.
