  • Third-quarter adjusted earnings rose on stronger Texas utility results and higher Oncor equity earnings.

Sempra reported stronger third-quarter results on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as higher earnings from its Texas utility business more than offset pressure from California regulatory items. The company said adjusted earnings reached 917 million US dollars, compared with 728 million US dollars a year earlier, while adjusted diluted earnings per share rose to 1.40 US dollars from 1.11 US dollars. The figures were published by Placera, carrying the PR Newswire release.

GAAP earnings attributable to common shares rose to 877 million US dollars from 77 million US dollars in the prior-year quarter. Diluted GAAP EPS was 1.34 US dollars, versus 0.12 US dollars in the third quarter of 2025. The adjusted result excludes several significant items, including a 149 million US dollar after-tax regulatory disallowance charge tied to Sempra California and a 97 million US dollar gain on the sale of Ecogas Mexico.

Texas investment drives results

Sempra Texas Utilities contributed 460 million US dollars of quarterly earnings attributable to common shares, up from 306 million US dollars a year earlier. Oncor also set an all-time system peak demand record of 33.3 gigawatts, up 6% from the previous record. The company said Oncor expects its 2027-2031 base capital plan to increase by about 20% from the 2026-2030 plan, reflecting continued electricity-load growth across Texas.

Sempra invested 9.6 billion US dollars during the first nine months of 2026 on a capital-deployed basis. Management said these investments are intended to expand and modernize regulated infrastructure in Texas and California while supporting reliability and rising customer demand.

Guidance and transaction milestones

Sempra raised its full-year 2026 GAAP EPS guidance range to 7.41 to 8.41 US dollars and guided to the high end of its adjusted EPS range of 4.80 to 5.30 US dollars. The company affirmed 2027 EPS guidance of 5.10 to 5.70 US dollars and a long-term EPS growth target of 7% to 9%.

The planned sale of a 45% equity interest in Sempra Infrastructure Partners to affiliates of KKR remains on track and is expected to close within two weeks of the earnings release. Sempra estimates a gain of 2.00 billion to 2.40 billion US dollars from the transaction, before ancillary costs of 325 million to 400 million US dollars. The deal is part of management's capital-recycling plan and is intended to strengthen the balance sheet and support utility growth.

California remains a material risk to the outlook. A proposed decision from the California Public Utilities Commission on October 29 denied a request involving the 2024 General Rate Case capital attrition mechanism. Sempra said an unsuccessful regulatory outcome could place 2027 California earnings at the low end of the segment guidance range.

Sempra stock traded at 74.03 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:31 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Real-time quote of Sempra stock is available for investors tracking the European listing.
