Seagate stock enters its next quarter with record profitability and a stronger balance sheet. Management targets higher fiscal Q2 revenue.

Strong Results Raise Execution Stakes

  • Seagate delivered sharply higher fiscal first-quarter revenue, margins and earnings.
  • Debt reduction strengthened the balance sheet while dividends and repurchases returned cash to shareholders.
  • The December-quarter outlook depends on demand, pricing and the rollout of HAMR-based storage products.

Seagate Technology reported record fiscal first-quarter profitability on October 27, as strong demand for mass-capacity storage and firm pricing lifted revenue and margins. The quarter ended October 2, 2026, and management paired the results with a stronger outlook for the December quarter.

According to the Seagate investor-relations release, revenue rose to USD 4.233 billion from USD 2.629 billion a year earlier. GAAP gross margin increased to 57.3 percent from 39.4 percent, while GAAP diluted earnings per share reached USD 7.59, compared with USD 2.43 in the prior-year quarter. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share came in at USD 7.68, up from USD 2.61.

Cash Flow Supports Balance Sheet

Seagate generated USD 1.7 billion in operating cash flow and USD 1.5 billion in free cash flow during the quarter. The company retired USD 1.2 billion of principal debt, reducing gross debt to USD 2.4 billion at the quarter-end. It then retired another USD 750 million after the reporting date, bringing gross debt to USD 1.6 billion.

Shareholder returns also increased. Seagate returned USD 568 million through dividends and share repurchases during the quarter, while the board raised the quarterly cash dividend by about 3 percent to USD 0.76 per share. The dividend is payable on January 7, 2027, to shareholders of record on December 23, 2026.

Higher Outlook Sets Next Test

For fiscal second quarter 2027, Seagate guided to revenue of USD 4.8 billion, plus or minus USD 100 million, and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of USD 9.20, plus or minus USD 0.20. The earnings guidance excludes an estimated USD 0.30 per share of pre-tax share-based compensation expense.

Chief Executive Dave Mosley said long-term customer demand visibility and the company's HAMR-based technology roadmap support a multi-year growth phase. The strategy relies on higher areal density, value-based pricing and disciplined supply. For investors, the next test is whether Seagate can convert that demand visibility into higher shipments while maintaining margins during the rollout of newer products.
