- Schneider Electric links energy efficiency and flexible demand to the challenge of powering high-load AI data centers.
- Godemel says developers should assess site power, integrate computing, power and cooling, and simulate systems before operation.
- Digital controls could help data centers become more active participants in managing grid demand.
Schneider Electric's energy management chief Frédéric Godemel said on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that flexible demand and digital controls can help data centers manage the power peaks created by artificial intelligence. In a Bloomberg interview carried by Yahoo Finance, he distinguished overall electricity availability from the local and time-specific peaks that can constrain data-center projects.
Flexibility targets peak demand
Godemel said energy efficiency is the first way to reduce peak demand. Digital systems can then shift flexible loads into other parts of the day, allowing operators to use available electricity more effectively while additional generation and grid capacity are developed.
He also described data centers as potential participants in the grid rather than only large consumers. Operators that can adjust demand could help ease local pressure, provided their systems can respond without compromising computing performance.
Simulation moves ahead of construction
For new AI infrastructure, Godemel said developers should begin with the site's available power and the required computing capacity. He then urged an integrated view of computing, power and cooling instead of separate planning processes.
His third priority was to simulate systems before they operate. Schneider Electric's approach connects design and optimization tools so developers can test efficiency and identify constraints before equipment is installed. For investors, the comments reinforce the strategic importance of the company's energy-management and digital-infrastructure activities as AI raises electricity demand.
