SAP expanded its enterprise AI roadmap on Thursday, October 29, with new lakehouse and business data fabric capabilities built on its completed Dremio acquisition. The announcement adds a fresh product layer to the AI tools covered in the previous report.

Data access becomes the next AI test

According to SAP News Center, SAP Business Data Cloud now supports native Apache Iceberg and a universal catalog based on Apache Polaris. Dremio also contributes a federated SQL engine designed to query lakehouses and relational databases without moving or copying the data.

The strategic aim is to give Joule and other AI agents access to business information while preserving governance and context. SAP said the new functions can connect data across platforms and support natural-language access through Joule Work. The commercial benefit remains a future opportunity rather than a reported revenue contribution.

Cloud backlog remains the financial anchor

The product push follows SAP's third-quarter update, which showed current cloud backlog of 24.1 billion euros, cloud revenue growth of 26 percent and total revenue growth of 13 percent. The company expects 2026 cloud revenue at the upper end of its 25.8 billion to 26.2 billion euro range.

General availability for the new lakehouse capabilities and SAP Reltio data product functions is planned for the first quarter of 2027, according to SAP's TechEd innovation guide. That timing gives investors a defined checkpoint for assessing whether the expanded data platform moves from product promise to customer adoption.
