Salesforce announced two strategic moves on Thursday, October 29, 2026, extending its push into defense and public-sector technology. The company agreed to acquire Rune Technologies and unveiled plans for a new innovation center in Washington, D.C.
Rune adds frontline logistics
Salesforce said in its Rune Technologies announcement that the target develops software for military logistics and sustainment operations. Its technology helps frontline teams forecast supply needs, optimize resources and make decisions in denied, degraded, intermittent or limited-connectivity environments.
The acquisition would broaden Salesforce's Missionforce portfolio with situational-intelligence capabilities at the tactical edge. Salesforce said Rune is already deployed with the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2027, subject to customary conditions.
Washington expands public-sector reach
Salesforce also announced plans for the Salesforce Innovation Center D.C. at 1401 New York Avenue NW. According to the company's Washington announcement, the site will host meetings, policy events and technology demonstrations for public-sector customers, partners, elected officials and community groups.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with an official opening planned for early 2028. Salesforce said the center will support agencies modernizing services through GovCloud and Missionforce, while its existing McLean, Virginia, office will remain a regional hub.
