Safran is expanding its artificial-intelligence activities in Southeast Asia with a new Safran.AI subsidiary in Singapore. The company and the Singapore Economic Development Board signed a memorandum of understanding on October 29, according to the Singapore Economic Development Board.

A regional base for industrial AI

The planned entity will be Safran.AI's first international subsidiary. Its initial focus will be an AI Centre of Excellence supporting the automation of digital inspections for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations, known as MRO 4.0.

Safran said the Singapore operation will also use local research capabilities and academic partnerships to develop further applications. The unit is intended to serve Safran.AI customers across the ASEAN region, giving the group a dedicated base for commercial and technical expansion in Southeast Asia.

The company expects the entity to grow to around 50 employees over the next five years. Recruitment is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with data scientists and AI engineers among the planned hires.

Safran deepens Singapore presence

Safran has operated in Singapore for more than 45 years and employs around 900 people across five production, engineering and maintenance sites, according to the EDB release. The country already serves as a regional base for the group's maintenance and customer-support activities.

Safran.AI CEO Sebastien Fabre said the subsidiary would draw on Singapore's aviation-maintenance ecosystem and help build the group's Southeast Asian presence. Philippe Errera, Safran's executive vice president for international development and government affairs, said the company intended to strengthen its regional footprint through the partnership.
