- The CB90 CX adds intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defence configurations.

- The new platform is designed for crewed or uncrewed operations through Saab's Autonomous Ocean Core.
Saab announced the Combat Boat 90 Capability X, or CB90 CX, on Monday, November 2, 2026. The Swedish defence company said the new platform will be available in three optionally crewed configurations covering intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-ship warfare, and short-range air defence.
The Saab press release describes the CB90 CX as a larger development of the established combat boat family. It has increased payload capacity and updated onboard systems for a wider range of sea conditions. Saab said the platform is designed to move beyond troop transport and combine sensors, weapons and distributed operations.
Three missions for one platform
The intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance version uses Saab's Giraffe 1X radar to support multi-domain situational awareness. The anti-ship version is intended to provide over-the-horizon strike capability, while the short-range air defence version uses an anti-aircraft autocannon.
Saab said the three configurations can operate together or as part of a wider joint force. The company also said the CB90 CX is designed for optionally crewed missions using its Autonomous Ocean Core. That architecture could broaden the platform's role as navies seek more distributed surveillance and defence capabilities.
Sweden is the launch customer and is currently putting the CB90 CX into production. The new boat will operate alongside the smaller CB90 NG. Saab said CB90 boats already serve nine navies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Americas.
For investors, the announcement adds a new product milestone to Saab's naval and sensor portfolio. The commercial significance will depend on future customer adoption, production volumes and the conversion of the platform into orders. Saab's investor relations page lists an order backlog of SEK 364 billion as of September 30, 2026, giving the launch a wider context within the group's defence growth story.
