- Saab introduced the optionally crewed CB90 CX for surveillance, anti-ship warfare and short-range air defence.
- Sweden is the launch customer, with production already under way.
- The platform expands the CB90 family beyond troop transport toward distributed naval combat capabilities.
Saab introduced the new Combat Boat 90 Capability X, or CB90 CX, on Monday, November 2, 2026. The company said in its press release that the optionally crewed platform is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-ship warfare and short-range air defence.
CB90 moves beyond troop transport
The new boat broadens the role of Saab's established CB90 family. Its three initial configurations are intended to combine sensors, weapons and autonomous operation across more distributed naval forces.
The ISR version uses Saab's Giraffe 1X radar. The anti-ship configuration provides over-the-horizon strike capability, while the short-range air defence version uses an anti-aircraft autocannon. Saab said the CB90 CX has higher payload capacity and updated onboard systems compared with the existing vessel.
Sweden starts production as launch customer
Saab said the CB90 CX is already in production for Sweden, which is the launch customer. The new platform will operate alongside the smaller CB90 NG. The wider CB90 family serves nine navies, according to Saab.
Saab B stock slips from weekend quote
The real-time quote of Saab B stock traded at 59.78 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:53 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. That was 3.14 percent below the 61.72 euros quoted in the latest relevant own report on Saturday, October 31. For investors, the CB90 CX adds a new naval platform to Saab's product narrative and creates a possible route into broader surveillance, strike and air-defence requirements. The announcement is a product and positioning milestone; it does not by itself establish a new order or a change to financial guidance.
