- RWE withdrew its Fourth Quarter battery from Maryland's first storage solicitation while maintaining its construction plan.
- The project ranked first among five applications, but the state awarded credits to two other projects.
- RWE is scheduled to publish its first three quarters results on November 11, 2026.
RWE Supply & Trading Americas withdrew its planned 300-megawatt Fourth Quarter battery from Maryland's first large-scale storage solicitation on August 28, but the company said it would pursue an alternative route to construct and commercialize the project as planned. The development was reported by Moderately MOCO and concerns the route to market rather than an announced cancellation.
The Maryland Public Service Commission ruled on October 1. Its consultant ranked RWE's Fourth Quarter proposal first among five applications, with scores ranging from 93.86 to 96.93 under different weighting scenarios. The commission nevertheless conditionally awarded storage credits to the 400-megawatt Chalk Point project and the 40-megawatt Jade Meadow III project, together totaling 440 megawatts.
Execution now matters most
The battery is planned for the former Dickerson Generating Station in Montgomery County. The commission order lists October 1, 2028, as the planned commercial operation date, while the project remains described as in development. The schedule depends on transmission work by Pepco, according to the commission material cited by Moderately MOCO.
RWE's withdrawal notice gave no detailed reason and referred only to an alternative path forward. That leaves approvals, grid connection and the precise commercialization route as the main milestones for investors. Maryland is due to open a second 800-megawatt solicitation by January 1, 2027, but the available reports do not establish whether RWE will participate.
RWE stock traded at 57.34 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 11:09 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, 0.35 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, October 30, at 57.54 euros. The real-time quote of RWE stock reflects the latest available trading indication rather than a completed Xetra session.
