Repsol reported stronger third-quarter and nine-month results on Thursday, October 29, and announced a third share buyback program worth up to EUR 950 million. The Spanish energy group said its performance benefited from higher refining margins, increased crude oil prices and solid operating execution, according to the company's third-quarter results release.
Repsol stock traded at 30.47 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 10:44 CET on Monday, November 2, 0.23 percent below the Xetra close of Friday, October 30. Investors can follow the real-time quote of Repsol stock.
Cash generation strengthens the balance sheet
Net income for the first nine months reached EUR 5.006 billion, compared with EUR 1.177 billion in the same period of 2025. Repsol said the latest result included a positive inventory effect of EUR 943 million, while the year-earlier figure had been reduced by a negative inventory effect and the impact of a nationwide blackout in April 2025.
Adjusted net income stood at EUR 5.419 billion through September. The Industrial business contributed EUR 3.668 billion, up from EUR 540 million a year earlier, as higher refining margins supported earnings. Upstream adjusted net income rose 28.6 percent to EUR 1.088 billion, while the Customer business increased earnings 4.6 percent to EUR 613 million. Low Carbon Generation recorded adjusted net income of EUR 43 million, up 23 percent.
Operating cash flow reached EUR 6.503 billion through September, and net debt stood at EUR 2.038 billion at the end of the period. Repsol ended the quarter with liquidity of EUR 11.922 billion, including undrawn committed credit lines, covering short-term gross debt maturities 4.14 times.
Buyback lifts shareholder distributions
The new program follows EUR 850 million of buybacks already completed in 2026. Repsol said the third program is intended for share cancellation and is expected to be completed by year-end. Total buybacks for 2026 are therefore expected to reach EUR 1.8 billion, while dividends and buybacks together should bring shareholder distributions close to EUR 3 billion.
The company targets distributing between 30 percent and 40 percent of operating cash flow to shareholders through 2028. The 2026 cash dividend is EUR 1.051 per share, with an additional EUR 0.56 gross payment planned for January 2027. Repsol said the reduction in shares outstanding should support a higher dividend per share over time.
Projects and production remain in focus
Repsol plans projects worth EUR 11.5 billion in Spain between 2026 and 2030, with about 60 percent allocated to initiatives near its industrial complexes. The program includes renewable hydrogen, renewable fuels, energy storage and other lower-carbon projects. The company also said it has allocated close to EUR 3.7 billion to crude oil and refined product inventories between January and September to strengthen supply security.
Average upstream production reached 557,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the first nine months. Repsol expects full-year 2026 production between 560,000 and 570,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, while October production averaged 590,000 barrels per day.
Spain's IBEX 35 provides the relevant domestic market backdrop for Repsol investors.
For the share, the main near-term focus is execution of the EUR 950 million buyback, cash generation through the final quarter and delivery of the January dividend. Repsol's planned capital returns may support per-share metrics, while refining margins, oil prices and geopolitical supply risks remain important variables for earnings.
