Power Grid Corporation of India (INE752E01010) commissioned a 2,500 MW solar transmission scheme in Bidar, Karnataka, with commercial operations beginning on October 5, 2026. HDFC SKY reported the milestone on October 9, 2026, while DSIJ recorded Motilal Oswal Financial Services' Neutral rating and INR 302 target in its August 7, 2026 update.
Bidar adds 2,500 MW capacity
The project is designed to evacuate solar power from the Bidar energy zone into the transmission network. HDFC SKY said the commercial-operation notice was dated October 5, 2026 and reached Power Grid by email on October 8, 2026.
The scheme was first assigned to Power Grid Bidar Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary, before that entity was amalgamated with Power Grid Khavda II-C Transmission Limited effective March 1, 2026. The project therefore combines a current operating milestone with a previously disclosed corporate restructuring.
What does capital spending add?
DSIJ reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 standalone revenue of INR 98.0 billion, down 1.00 percent year over year, while adjusted profit after tax reached INR 35.0 billion, up 1.00 percent year over year. Quarterly capital spending was INR 77.7 billion and capitalization was INR 52.8 billion.
The same DSIJ report said management maintained fiscal 2027 capital spending guidance of INR 370.0 billion and capitalization guidance of INR 300.0 billion. Works-in-hand stood at INR 1.75 trillion, giving the commissioning event a measurable place within a much larger project pipeline.
Three dated transmission milestones
On March 1, 2026, the Bidar subsidiary was amalgamated into Power Grid Khavda II-C Transmission Limited. On August 21, 2026, Power Grid was declared the successful bidder for a Gujarat transmission project linked to 6,500 MW of renewable power at an annual tariff of INR 8.2291 billion, as Equitypandit reported. On October 5, 2026, the 2,500 MW Bidar scheme entered commercial operation.
Power Grid stock stays near its yearly low
Power Grid was trading at INR 250.25 on NSE at 11:23 a.m. IST on October 9, 2026, up 2.29 percent from the prior close of INR 244.65. The NSE identifies Power Grid Corporation of India with ticker POWERGRID, primary listing on NSE, the power-transmission industry and NIFTY 50 membership, while its 52-week range was INR 244.65 to INR 324.95.
The gap between the current price and the 52-week high is 23.00 percent, calculated from the NSE values. The share price therefore remained close to the 52-week low even as the Bidar commissioning supplied a concrete operating milestone and the company continued its large capital program.
