- Ping An's operating profit reached RMB125.905 billion in the first nine months of 2026.
- Net profit declined as investment volatility weighed on reported earnings.
- AI-supported services expanded across insurance, healthcare and customer operations.
Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China reported stronger underlying performance for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, while market-driven investment effects depressed reported net profit. The company released the unaudited results on October 28, according to its EQS release.
Operating profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company increased 8.3% from a year earlier to RMB125,905 million. The measure is intended to reduce the effect of short-term investment volatility and one-time items. Life and health insurance operating profit rose 5.7% to RMB87,238 million.
Reported Profit Faces Investment Drag
Net profit attributable to shareholders fell 27.3% to RMB96,645 million, compared with RMB132,856 million a year earlier. Basic earnings per share declined to RMB5.55 from RMB7.56, while basic operating earnings per share increased 9.2% to RMB7.23.
The contrast leaves investors with two different signals. Core earnings advanced, supported by insurance and financial-services operations, but reported profit remained more exposed to changes in equity-market valuations and other investment effects. Ping An's equity attributable to shareholders reached RMB1,044,366 million at September 30, up 4.4% from the end of 2025.
Insurance Operations Improve Efficiency
Ping An's property and casualty business generated premium income of RMB265,215 million, an increase of 3.5% year on year. Insurance revenue grew 3.8% to RMB263,035 million, while the combined ratio improved by 1.4 percentage points to 95.6%. A ratio below 100% indicates underwriting profitability before investment income.
The life and health division continued to grow operating profit, but new business value declined 13.3% to RMB30,987 million. Non-agency channels increased their share of new business value by 1.8 percentage points to 36.9%, pointing to a continuing shift in distribution beyond the traditional agency network.
Ping An Bank increased revenue 2.4% to RMB103,100 million and net profit 2.2% to RMB39,186 million. Its non-performing loan ratio stood at 1.05%, while the provision coverage ratio was 214.75% at the end of September.
AI Moves Into Core Services
Technology remained central to Ping An's operating strategy. Its Express Service handled AI-enabled inquiries, consultations and processing across 90% of business scenarios by September 30. The service had assisted customers more than 150 million times and resolved 91% of requests end to end with AI.
AI also supported healthcare and risk management. AI Doctor served more than 62 million times during the period, while nearly 13 million people used the service. Ping An said its AI-enabled fraud detection helped its property and casualty business save RMB10,040 million in claims during the first nine months, 9.7% more than a year earlier.
For investors, the figures suggest that AI is being used not only as a customer interface but also to lower operating costs, improve underwriting and strengthen health-related services. The company also launched integrated brain-health services in September, covering early screening, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for Alzheimer's disease.
