Philips reported stronger demand and profitability in the third quarter on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. In its third-quarter release, the healthcare technology group said comparable order intake rose 8% and comparable sales increased 3%.

Group sales reached EUR 4.4 billion. Adjusted EBITA margin expanded by 70 basis points to 13.0%, supported by higher sales, gross margin improvement and productivity measures. Income from operations was EUR 165 million, while operating cash flow reached EUR 544 million and free cash flow EUR 384 million.

The profitability improvement exceeded market expectations. Reuters reported that adjusted EBITA rose 7.2% to EUR 569 million, above the EUR 522 million consensus estimate published on Philips' website.

Growth remains uneven across divisions

Personal Health led the operating performance with comparable sales growth of 8%, while its adjusted EBITA margin increased 60 basis points to 17.7%. Connected Care sales rose 5%, and its margin gained 190 basis points to 13.3%.

Diagnosis & Treatment reported flat comparable sales. Growth in Image Guided Therapy was offset by weaker Precision Diagnosis, reflecting the timing of ultrasound sales and lower sales in China. Even so, the segment's adjusted EBITA margin improved 50 basis points to 12.3%.

Philips said productivity initiatives generated EUR 170 million in net savings during the quarter and EUR 427 million in the first nine months. The company remains on track to deliver EUR 1.5 billion in savings under its 2026-2028 productivity program.

Respironics settlement adds financial burden

Philips Respironics reached an agreement in principle with the US Department of Justice covering previously disclosed criminal and civil investigations linked to the sleep and respiratory care device recall. Philips recorded a EUR 288 million provision in the third quarter. The settlement still requires final documentation, with payment expected in the first quarter of 2027.

The provision increases the difference between Philips' underlying operating performance and its reported results. The agreement may reduce one part of the legal uncertainty around Respironics, but Philips said its outlook excludes other ongoing proceedings, including an investigation by US state attorneys general.

Outlook stays unchanged for 2026

Philips maintained its full-year outlook for comparable sales growth of 3% to 4.5%, an adjusted EBITA margin of 13.5% to 14.0% and free cash flow of EUR 1.5 billion to EUR 1.7 billion. The margin target includes an expected benefit of approximately 1% from US tariff refunds, while the cash-flow target includes a net tariff-refund benefit of approximately EUR 200 million.

The real-time quote of Philips stock was EUR 25.84 on Lang & Schwarz at 11:32 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 5.43% above the Xetra close of Monday, November 2, at EUR 24.51. The comparison indicates a strong market move after the results, without establishing that the release alone caused the change.
