Pernod Ricard stock weighs India growth against US and China weakness

Pernod Ricard stock faces a sharply divided regional picture after strong India demand offset weakness in the United States and China. Management kept its outlook.

Growth gaps shape the outlook

  • India provided strong momentum while the United States and China remained under pressure from inventory adjustments.
  • Pernod Ricard expects broadly stable organic sales in FY27 and growth near the lower end of its medium-term target range.
  • Cost control, brand investment and cash generation remain central to management's plan.

Pernod Ricard stock traded at 70.05 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:40 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026, 2.16 percent below the Xetra close of Thursday, November 5. The spirits group is balancing strong Indian demand against inventory adjustments and weaker consumption in the United States and China.

In its Q1 FY27 sales release dated October 15, Pernod Ricard reported organic net sales of 2.234 billion euros for the three months through September. Organic sales declined 0.9 percent, while reported sales fell 6.3 percent. The reported decline reflected portfolio changes and currency effects in addition to the operating performance.

India offsets major-market pressure

India was the strongest part of the regional portfolio, with sales up 19 percent. Pernod Ricard cited resilient consumer demand and continued premiumisation. Imported spirits including Jameson, Absolut and Ballantine's posted strong double-digit growth, while local brands Royal Stag and Blenders Pride also advanced.

The company is preparing for a potential Indian initial public offering, which supported a favourable pipe-fill effect during the quarter. Any transaction remains subject to board approval, so the preparation is not a completed sale or listing.

The two largest pressure points were the United States and China. US sales fell 10 percent as inventory adjustments continued to weigh on the market. China declined 25 percent in a difficult macroeconomic environment, also because of trade inventory adjustments. Pernod Ricard said underlying depletions in China returned to growth after the Mid-Autumn Festival, offering an early sign of improvement without removing the near-term sales pressure.

Outside the United States and China, sales increased 4 percent. Asia outside China and India delivered 9 percent growth, while Europe declined 6 percent and global travel retail fell 4 percent. Group volumes returned to growth at 6 percent, with strategic international brand volumes up 2 percent.

Stable guidance leaves execution in focus

Management expects organic net sales to remain broadly stable in FY27. The outlook assumes further declines in the United States and China as inventory adjustments continue, with improving underlying trends in China and sustained growth in the rest of the world, particularly India.

Pernod Ricard also plans to defend its organic operating margin through cost control and faster operational-efficiency measures. Advertising and promotional investment is expected to remain close to 16 percent of net sales, while strategic investment is planned at around 700 million euros. The company continues to target cash conversion near 90 percent and a net debt-to-EBITDA ratio below three times by FY29.

For FY27 to FY29, management is targeting average organic net sales growth near the lower end of its 3 to 6 percent range. That framing leaves investors focused on whether India and other growth markets can offset prolonged weakness in the United States and China, rather than on a rapid group-wide recovery.
