PACCAR Inc. reported a sharp increase in third-quarter profit on October 27, with management pointing to stronger truck margins, record parts revenue and continued demand for new vehicles. The company said in its third-quarter earnings release that revenue rose 19 percent year over year to 7.94 billion US dollars, while net income increased 44 percent to 847.5 million US dollars.

Diluted earnings reached 1.61 US dollars per share, compared with 1.12 US dollars a year earlier. Chief Executive Preston Feight attributed the improvement to higher truck segment margins and broad operating strength. PACCAR Parts generated record quarterly revenue of 1.78 billion US dollars, although its pretax profit declined to 404.4 million US dollars from 410.0 million US dollars in the year-earlier period.

Demand Outlook Extends Into 2027

Management said fleet customers are beginning to replace older vehicles with newer, more fuel-efficient trucks. PACCAR expects US and Canadian Class 8 industry retail sales to reach 240,000 to 260,000 vehicles in 2026 and 240,000 to 280,000 vehicles in 2027. The upper end of the 2027 range implies stronger industry activity than the company expects this year.

European registrations for trucks above 16 tonnes are forecast at 300,000 to 320,000 units in both 2026 and 2027. In South America, PACCAR sees the comparable market increasing from 100,000 to 105,000 vehicles this year to 105,000 to 115,000 next year. Management cited US economic growth, infrastructure investment and fleet replacement as demand supports.

Suppliers Remain a Near-Term Constraint

PACCAR delivered 40,100 trucks globally in the quarter. That was above the 31,900 vehicles delivered a year earlier, but supplier capacity limited production as demand improved. The company expects fourth-quarter deliveries to rise to 41,000 to 43,000 trucks as suppliers increase output.

That outlook gives investors a clear near-term operating test: stronger orders must translate into higher production without eroding margins. The parts business and financial services segment provide additional earnings support, but the truck operation remains sensitive to component availability and the timing of fleet purchases.

Investment Priorities Continue

PACCAR plans capital expenditures of 650 million to 700 million US dollars in 2026 and expects the same range in 2027. Research and development spending is projected at 440 million to 460 million US dollars this year and 460 million to 500 million US dollars next year.

The company also plans to make PACCAR Connect available in Kenworth and Peterbilt Class 8 trucks from early 2027. The platform combines vehicle data, telematics, fleet applications and electronic driver logs, adding a connected-services element to PACCAR's traditional truck and parts businesses.
