- Ormat secured two long-term Israeli storage agreements with Allied Infrastructure.
- The projects are expected to enter commercial operation during 2028 after permitting and interconnection work.
- Third-quarter results are scheduled for release after the US market closes on November 4, followed by a conference call the next day.
Ormat Technologies announced on February 13, 2025 that it had won two 15-year tolling agreements for energy storage facilities in Israel. The company said the award came from a tender issued by the Israeli Electricity Authority and marked its first major entry into Israel’s utility-scale storage market. The details were published in the company’s February 2025 press release.
The two facilities are planned with combined capacity of approximately 300 megawatts and 1,200 megawatt-hours. Ormat is developing them in a 50-50 partnership with Allied Infrastructure Ltd. The partners were still working on interconnection approvals and land-use permits when the announcement was made, while commercial operation was expected during 2028.
Long-term contracts meet execution risk
The tolling structure is intended to provide contracted revenue and greater stability for the storage portfolio. The agreement also includes an option to terminate the initial contract and move to the merchant market, giving the project structure a potential route to market-based revenues. That flexibility can broaden the commercial options, but construction, permitting, interconnection and execution remain important milestones before the assets contribute operating earnings.
Ormat said the projects were part of its strategy to expand energy storage alongside its geothermal and recovered-energy businesses. In its company description accompanying the 2026 results-call announcement, Ormat said its total generating portfolio had reached 1,850 megawatts, including 495 megawatts of energy storage capacity located in the United States. The Israeli projects therefore represent a longer-dated addition to an existing storage expansion effort rather than an immediate earnings driver.
Next catalyst arrives after market close
Ormat Technologies said in an October 6 announcement that it plans to publish third-quarter 2026 results after the US market closes on Wednesday, November 4. Management has scheduled a conference call for Thursday, November 5, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. The update should give investors a nearer-term read on geothermal operations, storage deployment and the company’s progress toward its broader growth objectives.
