- Chinese AI and cloud companies have ordered about 6 million RTX Pro 5500 chips.
- Buyers expect only tens of thousands of units within the next four months.
- Nvidia and TSMC are directing capacity toward next-generation products such as Rubin.
Chinese AI developers expect to receive only a small fraction of their Nvidia chip orders over the coming months, according to a Bloomberg report published by Yahoo Finance on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and other Chinese AI and cloud companies have ordered about 6 million RTX Pro 5500 chips, but expect to receive only tens of thousands, or roughly 1 percent, within the next four months.
Demand outpaces available capacity
The reported orders are valued at about 70 billion US dollars at more than 11,000 US dollars per chip. The figures come from people familiar with the matter, while Nvidia has not confirmed the shipment volumes. The report said the first batch of several thousand chips is expected by the end of 2026, followed by another batch of tens of thousands around February.
Chinese hyperscalers estimate that they could receive roughly 700,000 RTX Pro 5500 units by the end of 2027 if Nvidia expands production. That estimate may change with capacity adjustments. The shortfall highlights the scarcity of AI computing capacity in China and could keep local developers reliant on alternatives from Huawei, Cambricon and Alibaba's T-Head.
The RTX Pro 5500 is not among Nvidia's most advanced accelerators restricted by US export controls, making it one of the more accessible high-performance options for Chinese buyers. Nvidia said US companies face a combination of older export controls and China's own restrictions on imports, but declined to comment on shipment numbers.
Nvidia stock traded at 175.21 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 14:30 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026, 2.96 percent below the Xetra close of Wednesday, November 4, at 180.56 euros; the real-time quote of Nvidia stock is available here.
Supply allocation shapes China outlook
Nvidia relies on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for production of its AI chips. Bloomberg reported that Nvidia and TSMC are allocating more capacity to next-generation products such as Rubin, leaving RTX Pro 5500 supply constrained for the foreseeable future. For investors, the situation presents a mixed signal: demand remains strong, but export rules, manufacturing capacity and product prioritization limit how quickly that demand can become revenue.
