- Nucor said its West Virginia sheet mill remains on schedule for an early-2027 production ramp.
- The Towers and Structures backlog has more than doubled since the start of the year and extends into early 2028.
- Management expects fourth-quarter earnings to be generally in line with or modestly above the third quarter.
Nucor Corporation reported a strong third quarter on October 26, 2026, and management added further operating detail during the October 27 earnings call. According to Nucor, net earnings attributable to stockholders reached USD 1.32 billion on sales of USD 11.25 billion for the quarter ended October 3.
What changed since the last report
The earnings call provided fresh detail on the company's expansion pipeline. Nucor said its West Virginia sheet mill produced its first heat in September and began shipping coils from its pickle line in October. The company is preparing to ramp production in early 2027 and is targeting 50 percent utilization by the end of 2027.
Management also said the Towers and Structures backlog has more than doubled since the start of the year and extends into early 2028. The company has qualified with more than 30 utilities and expects the business to generate approximately USD 200 million in long-term annual EBITDA, up from a previous target of USD 150 million.
The earnings-call transcript also showed that steel mill shipments exceeded 7.2 million tons, marking a third consecutive quarterly record. Management said 2026 shipment growth is tracking toward the upper end of its 5 percent to 10 percent range.
Outlook and investor context
Nucor expects consolidated fourth-quarter earnings to be generally in line with or modestly higher than the third quarter. Higher realized pricing is expected to offset seasonally lower volumes and higher costs in the steel mills, while raw-materials earnings are expected to decline slightly because of lower realized direct-reduced-iron pricing.
