New operating detail for investors

  • Temporary traffic routing at the Sharonville intermodal facility is scheduled to begin during the week of November 2.
  • Norfolk Southern says construction barriers and on-site assistance should keep driver dwell times unaffected.
  • The latest quarterly results showed record revenue, while fuel costs continued to pressure operating efficiency.

Norfolk Southern added a new operating detail on October 28. Temporary alternate traffic routing at the Sharonville intermodal facility is scheduled to begin during the week of November 2 because of ongoing construction, according to a Norfolk Southern customer alert.

Construction changes facility access

Grading and paving work near the office trailer will require barriers and alternate routes for customers and drivers entering or leaving Sharonville. Norfolk Southern says a clerk will assist with in-gate and out-gate processing and that the temporary routing is not expected to affect driver dwell times.

The notice is an operational update rather than a change to the railroad's financial outlook. It also points drivers to the ExpressNS+ mobile application for pre-gate information, parking and pickup locations, electronic interchange receipts and other terminal processes.

Quarterly backdrop remains mixed

The update follows Norfolk Southern's third-quarter results released on October 22. In its earnings release, the railroad reported quarterly record revenue of USD 3.5 billion, up 14 percent year over year, on 3 percent volume growth. Reported diluted earnings per share were USD 3.37, while adjusted diluted earnings per share were USD 3.62 after excluding merger-related expenses and the effects of the Eastern Ohio incident.

Operating efficiency remained a counterweight: the reported operating ratio was 67.4 percent, compared with 64.6 percent a year earlier, while the adjusted ratio was 65.4 percent. Higher fuel surcharges accounted for eight percentage points of the revenue growth, showing why the revenue increase should not be read as a full measure of underlying margin expansion.

At Lang & Schwarz, the valid euro quote was 304.55 EUR on October 29, 2026, at 16:12 Berlin time. That was 0.79 percent above the 302.15 EUR quote cited in the October 27 report, a separate comparison from any Xetra closing-price movement.
