Nikkei 225 closes 1.05 percent higher above 70,000 after JGB auction

Technology stocks and bond auction drive gains
Buying followed gains in U.S. technology shares and spread through Japanese AI and chip-related companies. Xinhua said falling crude oil prices also supported broader buying, while the Nikkei accelerated in afternoon trading as AI and semiconductor shares strengthened.
The session's domestic catalyst was the 10-year Japanese government bond auction. The Ministry of Finance recorded 7,401.1 billion yen in competitive bids against 1,966.1 billion yen accepted. The weighted-average yield was 3.101 percent and the yield at the lowest accepted price was 3.103 percent, according to the Ministry of Finance.
News on Japan reported that the Nikkei reached an intraday high of 70,798.62 points. It also cited gains in Advantest and other AI infrastructure companies, while SoftBank Group moved lower.

Japan's August Monthly Labour Survey is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. JST on October 7. Total cash earnings are expected to rise 3.7 percent after a 4.7 percent increase in the prior period, according to Japan Market Report. The August Business Conditions Index is due at 2:00 p.m. JST, with the leading index previously at 117.7 and a forecast of 118.1, according to Trading Economics.
