Netflix reported a third-quarter profit beat on October 20, while a lower advertising outlook shifted investor attention to execution. Since the November 4 report on ad growth and monetization, the stock moved from EUR 57.27 to EUR 58.46, a 2.08 percent increase.
Netflix reported earnings per share of USD 0.87 for the quarter ended September 30, ahead of the USD 0.82 analyst estimate, while revenue of USD 12.87 billion matched expectations. CNBC reported that net income rose to USD 3.66 billion from USD 2.55 billion a year earlier; Netflix said expense timing contributed to the increase.
Advertising remains the main execution test
Netflix cut its 2026 advertising revenue outlook to about USD 2.7 billion from roughly USD 3 billion after some advertising capabilities rolled out more slowly than expected. Co-CEO Greg Peters said the business continues to grow strongly but is behind its aggressive target for the year.
The company expects fourth-quarter revenue of USD 13.44 billion, representing growth of more than 11 percent. Its full-year revenue forecast is USD 51.1 billion, the low end of the previous USD 51.0 billion to USD 51.4 billion range. Management is also targeting stronger viewing-hour growth through better entertainment value, broader technology use and higher monetization.
Netflix is cutting about 6 percent of its workforce, or roughly 1,000 positions. The reductions are expected to lower fourth-quarter operating margin by about 120 basis points, while former Disney executive Peter Rice takes over as chief content officer after Bela Bajaria's departure.
