Netflix stock faces growth test after Q3 beat and ad forecast cut

- Third-quarter earnings per share exceeded expectations while revenue matched the analyst forecast.
- Netflix reduced its 2026 advertising revenue outlook because new ad capabilities are rolling out more slowly than planned.
- About 1,000 jobs were cut as Peter Rice took over content leadership and management sought stronger execution.
Netflix reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter profit on October 20, but the streaming company also lowered its advertising outlook and began a broad management reset. The results put the focus on whether Netflix can restore faster engagement growth while maintaining pricing power and expanding its ad-supported business.
According to CNBC, Netflix posted third-quarter earnings per share of 87 cents, ahead of the 82-cent analyst estimate compiled by LSEG. Revenue reached 12.87 billion US dollars, matching expectations and rising almost 12 percent from a year earlier. Net income increased to 3.66 billion US dollars from 2.55 billion US dollars in the comparable quarter.
The profit increase was helped in part by the timing of expenses, while membership growth, price increases and advertising supported revenue. Netflix expects fourth-quarter revenue of 13.44 billion US dollars, representing growth of more than 11 percent. Its full-year 2026 revenue forecast was narrowed to 51.1 billion US dollars, the low end of the previous 51.0 billion to 51.4 billion US dollar range.
Advertising remains a key execution test
The more immediate concern is the advertising business. Netflix now expects about 2.7 billion US dollars of advertising revenue in 2026, below its earlier forecast of roughly 3 billion US dollars. Co-CEO Greg Peters attributed the reduction to a slower rollout of advertising capabilities and partner integrations, while saying the business still has a long path for growth.
The revision matters because advertising is a central part of Netflix's next growth phase. A lower forecast does not overturn the subscription model, but it raises the execution burden for product launches, measurement tools and distribution partnerships. Management said the advertising business is still growing rapidly, yet investors will look for evidence that the delays are temporary and that monetization can improve without weakening the member experience.
Leadership changes raise the stakes
Netflix is also reshaping its content organization. The company said about 6 percent of its workforce, or roughly 1,000 employees, would be cut. Bela Bajaria departed as chief content officer, with former Disney executive Peter Rice taking the role. Netflix also announced the departure of film chief Dan Lin.
The changes come as management acknowledges investor concerns about viewing-hour growth and competition for consumer attention. Netflix said engagement remains healthy and outlined a strategy centered on delivering more entertainment value, using technology more effectively and improving monetization. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos has also emphasized the need for stronger US content execution.
Netflix stock traded at 55.75 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:33 CET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Investors are weighing the earnings beat against slower expected growth, the advertising reset and the cost of the workforce reduction. The company expects the job cuts to reduce fourth-quarter operating margin by about 120 basis points.
For investors, the next test is execution rather than a single quarterly result. Netflix must turn the new content structure into viewing momentum, deliver its advertising roadmap and keep subscription growth strong enough to offset pressure on the ad forecast. The company also expects its fourth-quarter performance to reflect the organizational changes.
Netflix stock remains part of the broader US equity market, tracked through the S&P 500.
