- Nasdaq plans to begin 23/5 trading for US equities on Sunday, December 6, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
- The schedule will run from Sunday evening through Friday evening with a daily one-hour maintenance pause.
- The core opening and closing auctions will remain part of the framework, while issuer disclosure obligations stay unchanged.
Nasdaq plans to expand trading in US equities to 23 hours a day, five days a week starting Sunday, December 6, 2026. The exchange operator outlined the timetable and operating framework in a Nasdaq Newsroom article published October 23.
Under the planned schedule, trading would begin at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday and continue through 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday. A one-hour pause from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays would support maintenance, clearing, settlement and corporate-action processing. The schedule would continue to observe US market holidays.
Access expands while safeguards remain
Nasdaq said the framework is intended to align market access more closely with global investor time zones and information cycles. The exchange also said its core opening and closing crosses will remain in place, preserving the market events used for price discovery and benchmark pricing.
For listed companies, Nasdaq said disclosure obligations, investor-relations practices and reporting requirements will not change. The exchange described overnight trading as taking place within the oversight of a registered national securities exchange, with operational controls including price-band protections, regulatory halts and enhanced customer disclosures.
Nasdaq stock traded at 95.10 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 12:06 CET on Monday, November 2, 2026. The real-time quote of Nasdaq stock is available through the company snapshot.
The Nasdaq Newsroom said most liquidity is expected to remain concentrated during traditional US trading hours, even as the longer schedule gives investors a regulated venue to respond to earnings, economic news and global events outside the regular session. The rollout therefore expands access without removing the central role of the daytime market.
