- Mitsui raised its fiscal-year profit forecast after stronger first-half earnings.
- Operating cash flow declined as working capital, particularly trade receivables, absorbed funds.
- The company maintained its full-year dividend plan at 140 yen per share.
Mitsui & Co. reported stronger first-half earnings on Wednesday, November 4, and lifted its forecast for the year ending March 31, 2027. The figures come from the company's six-month financial results for the period ended September 30, 2026.
Profit attributable to owners of the parent rose to 574.862 billion yen from 423.733 billion yen a year earlier. Revenue increased to 8.322 trillion yen from 6.759 trillion yen, while profit before income taxes reached 709.539 billion yen, compared with 546.636 billion yen in the prior-year period.
Forecast rises on stronger earnings
Mitsui now expects full-year profit attributable to owners of the parent of 1.05 trillion yen, up from its previous forecast of 920 billion yen. The revised target represents expected growth of 25.9% from the previous fiscal year. Profit before income taxes is forecast at 1.37 trillion yen, compared with the earlier projection of 1.22 trillion yen.
The company raised its forecast for gross profit by 110 billion yen to 1.56 trillion yen and its forecast for profit from equity-method investments by 70 billion yen to 590 billion yen. The filing also shows higher assumptions for crude oil prices and the average US dollar-to-yen exchange rate than in the May forecast, factors that can affect results across Mitsui's energy and resources businesses.
Cash generation remains the counterweight
Operating cash flow fell to 223.4 billion yen from 428.7 billion yen in the comparable period. Mitsui attributed the decline mainly to higher working capital, including an increase in trade receivables. Free cash flow was 23.4 billion yen, down from 187.6 billion yen, while Core Operating Cash Flow rose to 511.6 billion yen from 448.5 billion yen.
Investment-related gains also contributed to the earnings profile. Gains on securities and other investments increased to 118.6 billion yen from 27.5 billion yen, with Mitsui citing a valuation gain on its remaining equity in the CIM Group real estate business and profit related to a Brazilian passenger railway subsidiary leaving the consolidation scope.
Dividend plan remains unchanged
Mitsui maintained its full-year dividend forecast at 140 yen per share, including an interim dividend of 70 yen and a planned year-end dividend of 70 yen. The company said the full-year distribution would be 25 yen higher than the previous year's total.
