- Revenue beat expectations while quarterly profit fell short of analyst forecasts.
- Higher fulfillment and marketing costs reduced operating profitability.
- Management is prioritizing capacity and customer growth ahead of the peak shopping season.
MercadoLibre reported strong third-quarter growth on November 4, but the results also exposed the cost of expanding logistics capacity. The company's financial results release said revenue and financial income reached 10.75 billion US dollars, up 45 percent year over year for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
The real-time quote of MercadoLibre stock was 1,326.50 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 17:02 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
Revenue Outpaced Profit Growth
Net income rose about 6 percent to 448 million US dollars, while income from operations declined to 676 million US dollars. Reuters reported that the profit result missed the 476 million US dollar analyst estimate, even as revenue topped the 10.66 billion US dollar consensus.
The operating margin fell to 6.3 percent from nearly 10 percent a year earlier. According to Reuters, MercadoLibre increased fulfillment capacity by about 20 percent from the previous quarter ahead of major promotional events, while higher free-shipping costs and increased marketing spending in Brazil also weighed on margins.
Capacity Investment Shapes Outlook
Chief Financial Officer Martin de los Santos told Reuters that capacity spending creates costs before the related revenue arrives and that the pressure can be recovered in the following quarter. The trade-off leaves MercadoLibre balancing market-share gains and customer engagement against near-term earnings quality.
At Mercado Pago, the credit portfolio grew 62 percent year over year, although the pace slowed from recent quarters. Management has become more conservative with new lending in Brazil and Argentina amid a complex credit cycle, making credit quality an important monitor for investors.
