MediaTek announces Dimensity 9600 Pro: what it means for MediaTek stock

The flagship smartphone system-on-chip uses a 2-nanometer process and is designed for on-device artificial intelligence, gaming, imaging and computing.
Flagship chip focuses on efficiency
MediaTek said the Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a 2+3+3 all-big-core CPU architecture and delivers a 61 percent reduction in multi-core power consumption in the company’s testing. The company also reported up to 17 percent higher single-core performance and up to 15 percent higher multi-core performance versus the previous generation, based on demo-device testing in MediaTek labs.
Second chip broadens the lineup
MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 9600M, which uses a 3-nanometer process and is aimed at a broader segment of the flagship smartphone market, Reuters reported. MediaTek said the first smartphones powered by the two chips are expected to launch during the quarter.
Artificial intelligence capabilities
The Dimensity 9600 Pro includes a dual-neural-processing-unit architecture and an Agentic AI Engine. MediaTek said the NPU provides 51 percent higher large-language-model prefill performance and supports on-device applications with models of up to 30 billion parameters.
