Magyar Telekom reported stronger third-quarter operating performance on Wednesday, November 4, while cash generation weakened over the first nine months. The company said in its investor release that the figures are unaudited and prepared under IFRS.

Operating Growth Remains Broad-Based

Group service revenue increased 5.2 percent from the year-earlier quarter, supported by demand for data and broadband services and the inflation-based fee adjustment introduced on July 1. Total revenue advanced 7.4 percent as telecommunications services were joined by stronger IT and equipment sales.

Gross profit rose 6.0 percent, while EBITDA AL increased 6.6 percent. Adjusted net income grew 11.3 percent as operating momentum more than offset higher financial expenses. The company also reported a 5.2 percent year-on-year increase in third-quarter capital expenditure after leases, excluding spectrum licenses, mainly because of higher network investment.

Cash Flow Remains the Main Pressure Point

Free cash flow excluding spectrum licenses reached HUF 146.3 billion in the first nine months, down 18.7 percent from the same period a year earlier. Magyar Telekom attributed the decline to higher working-capital requirements, increased investment and income-tax payments, as well as the absence of proceeds from subsidiary sales recorded in the prior-year period.

Chief Executive Tibor Rékasi said the company had begun a comprehensive transformation of its customer-service operations. The initiative is intended to improve service quality, create new growth opportunities and support more personalized customer offers.
