Lynas stock benefited from record realized prices in the September quarter. Planned maintenance is set to curb near-term output.

Revenue Growth Meets Planned Maintenance

  • Record realized prices more than offset lower rare earth oxide sales volumes in the September quarter.
  • Scheduled shutdowns in Malaysia and Kalgoorlie are expected to reduce near-term production.
  • Management continues to seek a permanent chief executive after Amanda Lacaze left in June.

Lynas Rare Earths posted a 55% increase in first-quarter revenue for the quarter ended September 30, according to The Edge Malaysia. The result was driven by record realized prices, while lower sales volumes and planned maintenance remain key near-term risks.

Gross sales revenue reached A$310.1 million, up from A$200.2 million a year earlier. Lynas' average selling price rose 88% to a record A$102.1 per kilogram, helped by floor-price agreements covering more than half of production. Rare earth oxide sales volumes declined 17.7%, so the quarter's revenue growth depended heavily on pricing and product mix.

Maintenance Will Test Production Delivery

Lynas expects its Malaysian processing facility to shut for about one month during the December quarter for scheduled maintenance. The Kalgoorlie processing facility is also scheduled for a two-week shutdown in the second quarter of fiscal 2027 during electricity network upgrades. Both events are expected to weigh on production compared with the September quarter.

Total rare earth oxide production rose 6.5% to 4,254 metric tons in the September quarter, while output of NdPr, a key magnet material, was broadly steady. The pricing protection from floor contracts reduces exposure to swings in Chinese benchmarks, but execution and plant availability now carry greater importance for earnings.

CEO Search Remains Outstanding

The company continues its search for a permanent chief executive after Amanda Lacaze's departure in June. Investors will therefore be watching production continuity, the maintenance schedule and progress on the broader non-Chinese rare earth supply chain.
