Lufthansa Group combined commercial expansion with labor uncertainty during the week ending Saturday, October 31, 2026. The airline launched a new Kuala Lumpur-Frankfurt connection, appointed a regional sales chief for Northeast Asia and remained without an agreement in pilot mediation.
New route strengthens Asian network
Lufthansa launched its nonstop Kuala Lumpur-Frankfurt service on October 26, according to the Lufthansa Group newsroom. The year-round connection initially operates five days a week with a Boeing 787-9 carrying 287 passengers across three classes, including the Allegris cabin.
The route gives passengers in Malaysia direct access to Frankfurt and onward connections across Europe and other international markets. Kuala Lumpur becomes Lufthansa's fourth Southeast Asian destination alongside Bangkok, Singapore and Phuket, adding network breadth ahead of the winter schedule.
Regional sales leadership changes
On October 28, Lufthansa Group appointed Gabriella Galantis as Senior Director Regional Sales Japan and South Korea. The company newsroom said she will be based in Tokyo and oversee commercial activities across Northeast Asia. Galantis has held several Lufthansa Group commercial roles since joining the company in 1994.
Pilot dispute remains unresolved
Mediation between Lufthansa and the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots' union ended without an agreement, Travel Extra reported on October 25. The discussions covered pay increases, company pensions and a redundancy plan for Lufthansa Cityline. Further talks are planned, while the report said immediate strike action was not expected.
