  • Linde reported record third-quarter sales and adjusted earnings on October 29, 2026.

Linde reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter results on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as sales and adjusted earnings reached quarterly records. The industrial gases company also raised its full-year adjusted earnings outlook, while a restructuring charge and changes at its Lincare business added an execution issue for investors.

According to Linde's earnings release, third-quarter sales rose 9 percent year over year to 9.404 billion US dollars. Underlying sales increased 5 percent, supported by 3 percent price attainment and 2 percent volume growth, particularly in electronics, chemicals and energy, and manufacturing.

Adjusted earnings lead the quarter

Adjusted diluted earnings per share increased 9 percent from a year earlier to 4.59 US dollars. Adjusted operating profit rose 8 percent to 2.763 billion US dollars, producing an adjusted operating margin of 29.4 percent. Operating cash flow increased 8 percent to 3.169 billion US dollars, while free cash flow after capital expenditure reached 1.777 billion US dollars.

The headline GAAP figures were weaker because Linde recorded charges linked to its cost reduction program, portfolio actions and Linde AG purchase accounting. Net income was 1.692 billion US dollars and diluted earnings per share were 3.66 US dollars, down 11 percent from the prior-year quarter. The adjusted figures therefore provide the clearer view of the underlying operating trend, but investors still need to account for the cost of the restructuring measures.

Guidance rises for full year

Linde lifted its full-year 2026 adjusted diluted earnings guidance to 17.82 to 17.92 US dollars per share, representing growth of 8 to 9 percent. The company expects fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of 4.40 to 4.50 US dollars per share, or growth of 5 to 7 percent from the prior-year quarter. Full-year capital expenditure is expected to reach 5.5 billion to 6.0 billion US dollars.

CNBC reported that Linde took a 425 million US dollar restructuring charge in the quarter. Roughly half related to severance, while much of the remainder was tied to actions involving Lincare, the company's US home-care business. Management is moving Lincare under Chief Financial Officer Matt White and evaluating strategic alternatives, changes intended to give investors greater visibility into the regional gases operations.
