Lenzing stock: Q3 margin improves as revenue and loss weaken

Published on 11/06/2026 at 11:40 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWS
Lenzing stock enters a sharper transformation phase after nine-month margins improved despite lower revenue. The company kept its 2026 adjusted EBITDA target.

Margins Improve Despite Operating Strain

  • Lenzing kept adjusted EBITDA broadly stable while revenue declined in the first nine months.
  • Restructuring costs and impairment charges pushed reported earnings further into negative territory.
  • Management is targeting continued transformation and higher adjusted EBITDA for the full year.

Lenzing reported stronger underlying profitability in the third quarter despite weaker revenue and a larger reported loss for the first nine months of 2026. In its release on Thursday, November 5, the Austrian cellulose-fiber producer said adjusted EBITDA remained broadly stable, while its margin improved as the group reduced exposure to lower-margin standard fibers. The Lenzing report provides the company figures and management outlook.

Underlying Profitability Holds Up

Revenue for January through September fell 2.3 percent to EUR 1.926 billion from EUR 1.972 billion a year earlier. Lenzing attributed the decline mainly to lower sales volumes following the deliberate reduction of standard-fiber production and to lower pulp prices.

Adjusted EBITDA reached EUR 353.0 million, compared with EUR 352.7 million in the prior-year period. The adjusted EBITDA margin rose to 18.3 percent from 17.9 percent. The improvement was particularly visible in the third quarter, when the adjusted margin increased to 17.3 percent from 13.3 percent in the same quarter of 2025.

The stronger adjusted result did not translate into better reported earnings. EBITDA declined 7 percent to EUR 316.4 million, after EUR 340.4 million a year earlier, as restructuring-related effects rose to EUR 36.6 million from EUR 12.3 million. Reported earnings after tax showed a loss of EUR 130.3 million, compared with a loss of EUR 105.0 million in the prior-year period.

Transformation Remains Central

Non-cash impairment charges of EUR 136.1 million at the Heiligenkreuz and Grimsby production sites weighed on operating profit. Lenzing said adjusted earnings after tax, excluding impairment charges and restructuring effects, reached EUR 42.4 million, compared with a loss of EUR 10.8 million a year earlier.

Chief Executive Georg Kasperkovitz described the third quarter as an important milestone in the group's repositioning. The strategy, titled Grow Nonwovens. Reset Textiles., focuses on profitable growth in nonwovens, premium and specialty textile applications, and a stronger pulp and biorefinery business. Lenzing is continuing to withdraw from low-margin standard-fiber segments and high-cost sites.

The company aims to deliver more than EUR 120 million in additional savings against its 2025 baseline, with the full earnings impact expected by the end of 2027. Planned network changes include ending production at Heiligenkreuz by the end of the first quarter of 2027 and at Grimsby by the end of 2027.

Guidance Sets The Next Test

For the full year, management expects adjusted EBITDA to exceed the 2025 level of EUR 425.6 million and to reach between EUR 430 million and EUR 460 million. Medium-term targets include a return to revenue growth, a 20 to 25 percent EBITDA margin and leverage below 2.5 times.

The Lenzing stock traded at EUR 12.17 on Lang & Schwarz at 11:35 CET on Friday, November 6, 2026. Investors can follow the real-time quote of Lenzing stock.
