LANXESS and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited have entered into a memorandum of understanding to explore industrial lubricant technologies and specialty fluid solutions in India. The Hindu BusinessLine reported the agreement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, citing the companies' announcement.

A broad evaluation framework

The non-exclusive MoU covers the development, evaluation, qualification and potential commercialisation of advanced industrial lubricants, additive technologies and related specialty products. The companies will also examine product localisation, customer requirements and support for original equipment manufacturer approvals.

Potential applications include bearing and circulating oils, hydraulic fluids, turbine oils, refrigeration lubricants, rust preventive oils, specialty greases and industrial additive packages. The scope also reaches immersion cooling fluids for data centres and environmentally acceptable lubricants.

LANXESS and BPCL will assess next-generation and sustainable technologies as well. The list includes bio-based lubricants, electric vehicle fluids, hydrogen economy applications, specialty refrigeration fluids, personal care ingredients and cooling solutions for digital infrastructure.

Technology meets Indian market reach

LANXESS brings lubricant additive expertise, formulation capabilities and OEM engagement. BPCL contributes its manufacturing strength and domestic market presence. LANXESS executive Neelanjan Banerjee said the combination should accelerate the development and commercialisation of high-performance solutions for Indian industry. Karam Faddoul, head of sales for the IMEA region in LANXESS' Lubricant Additives business, said the companies aim to bring localised products closer to customers.

BPCL business head Kannan S said the partners intend to develop solutions for current industrial needs and emerging technological challenges. The agreement therefore gives LANXESS a route to test applications with a large local energy and manufacturing group, while the commercial outcome remains dependent on evaluation and qualification work.
