The share price sits between a 52-week low of ZAc 21,452 and a high of ZAc 39,531, while the latest results show a materially weaker earnings base.
First-half earnings lose ground
Simply Wall St reports that Kumba's first-half 2026 revenue fell 11 percent to ZAR 30.9 billion from the first half of 2025. Net income declined 42 percent to ZAR 4.15 billion, while basic earnings per share fell to ZAR 12.95 from ZAR 22.17.
The earnings pressure reached the margin line. The first-half profit margin was 13 percent, down from 21 percent in the comparable period, a decline of 8 percentage points. For investors, the key question is whether production reliability and logistics can offset weaker profitability per tonne.
Analysts lower the valuation bar
The analyst view also became more cautious in 2026. According to Simply Wall St, the average price target was reduced 7.7 percent to ZAR 286 from ZAR 310 on August 4, 2026, based on 8 analysts. The revised target reflects lower assumptions for revenue growth and profit margins.
The same analysis lists a 2026 revenue estimate of ZAR 61.1 billion and earnings of ZAR 8.2 billion. Those forecasts point to a business still generating substantial cash, but with earnings expected to remain below the 2025 level of ZAR 14.6 billion reported in the analysis.
Ore output remains the operating test
Kumba mines, processes and ships iron ore from its Sishen and Kolomela operations in South Africa, according to Yahoo Finance. Production results for the second quarter of 2026 showed output of 8,844,000 tonnes, compared with 9,257,000 tonnes in the same quarter of 2025, according to the Simply Wall St analysis.
That 413,000-tonne year-over-year decline gives the earnings figures an operational explanation. The share price was still above its 52-week low by 5.6 percent on October 6, 2026, but remained 42.7 percent below the 52-week high, leaving production volumes and margins as the clearest company-specific measures for the next update.
