- Komatsu raised its fiscal-year sales and operating-income projections after stronger equipment demand.
- First-half net sales increased 14.1 percent, while the operating margin narrowed to 13.3 percent.
- Second-quarter sales rose 13.6 percent, but operating income declined 1.2 percent year over year.
Komatsu raised its outlook for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, after reporting stronger equipment demand in the first half. The company disclosed the update in its October 29 results release, republished by Marketscreener.
Higher guidance on stronger demand
Komatsu now expects fiscal-year net sales of JPY 4,450.0 billion and operating income of JPY 585.0 billion. The projections are higher than the previous targets of JPY 4,302.0 billion and JPY 555.0 billion, respectively.
The company attributed the revisions to stronger-than-expected demand across its construction, mining and utility equipment business and greater-than-expected depreciation of the Japanese yen during the second quarter. The forecast for net income attributable to Komatsu rose to JPY 382.0 billion from JPY 349.0 billion previously.
Quarterly margin comes under pressure
For the six months ended September 30, net sales increased 14.1 percent year over year to JPY 2,158.6 billion. Operating income rose 3.5 percent to JPY 286.6 billion, while net income attributable to Komatsu increased 9.2 percent to JPY 191.9 billion. The operating margin narrowed to 13.3 percent from 14.6 percent.
In the July-to-September quarter, net sales climbed 13.6 percent to JPY 1,115.5 billion, but operating income slipped 1.2 percent to JPY 135.1 billion. The quarterly operating margin fell to 12.1 percent from 13.9 percent a year earlier.
Regional demand shapes the outlook
The construction, mining and utility equipment business generated JPY 1,999.6 billion in first-half sales, up 14.8 percent. Sales grew particularly strongly in Latin America and North America, while demand in Japan and parts of Asia remained weaker.
