Kioxia stock enters a new phase after record quarterly results and a cautious December-quarter outlook. AI demand remains a key growth driver.

Record profits meet a flatter outlook

Kioxia reported record results for the July-September quarter on October 30, but its next-quarter forecast points to a much flatter earnings path. The figures and outlook were reported by The Elec on November 2.

Kioxia's revenue reached 2.48 trillion yen in the second quarter of fiscal 2026, covering July through September. Revenue rose 453.2 percent from a year earlier and 40.3 percent from the previous quarter. The quarter's revenue also exceeded the company's full fiscal 2025 revenue of 2.3376 trillion yen.

AI demand drives record profitability

Operating profit surged 2,222 percent year on year to 1.9947 trillion yen. The operating margin reached 80.4 percent, an increase of 61.2 percentage points from a year earlier and 8.5 percentage points from the previous quarter. The improvement followed higher NAND average selling prices and stronger bit shipments.

The SSD and storage segment was the main contributor. Revenue there rose 560.8 percent to 1.616 trillion yen, with data-center and enterprise products accounting for more than 60 percent of segment revenue. Smart-devices revenue increased 401.5 percent to 788.9 billion yen.

Management expects demand for NAND memory to keep expanding as artificial-intelligence applications, key-value caching and AI-generated data increase storage requirements. Kioxia also expects greater adoption of high-capacity QLC solid-state drives in data centers. Demand from smartphones and PCs is expected to be comparatively weaker.

December outlook limits momentum

For the October-December quarter, Kioxia forecasts revenue of 2.5 trillion yen and operating profit of 2 trillion yen, broadly unchanged from the September quarter. The company attributed the slower sequential improvement to foreign-exchange pressure from a stronger yen and expects currency movements to reduce results by about 55 billion yen.

The medium- to long-term capacity picture remains supportive. Kioxia said its full production capacity for calendar 2027 has been allocated, while more than half of projected 2028 shipments have been reserved under multiyear agreements. It also plans to expand the Yokkaichi and Kitakami plants and is preparing a third Kitakami site targeted to begin operations in fiscal 2029.
