KION Group will use its Thursday, November 5, teach-in to explain how a new segment structure and IFRS 18 will reshape its financial reporting. The event follows the company's mixed third-quarter update, in which automation growth supported earnings while industrial truck orders weakened.

Reporting changes move closer

KION plans to separate most leasing activities into a new Financial Services segment from the first quarter of 2027. According to the Investing.com transcript of the Q3 update call, management expects the change to improve transparency, steering and funding flexibility.

The mandatory application of IFRS 18 will also change the presentation of the income statement, balance sheet and free cash flow statement. Thursday's session is based on fiscal 2025 figures. KION plans to provide further information based on full-year 2026 figures on March 4, 2027, before introducing the new reporting structure with its Q1 2027 results.

Automation offsets truck weakness

KION's third-quarter revenue increased 5 percent year over year to EUR 2.8 billion, while adjusted EBIT rose 7 percent to EUR 203 million. The adjusted EBIT margin reached 7.2 percent. Order intake, however, declined 1 percent to EUR 2.7 billion as demand in industrial trucks remained uneven, particularly in Europe.

The Industrial Trucks & Services segment generated adjusted EBIT of EUR 163 million and an 8.3 percent margin. Management said the segment's implied fourth-quarter margin should not improve in 2027 from its current exit rate. Pricing discipline supported premium products, but also contributed to weaker order growth in Europe's value and economy truck categories.

Intelligence Automation Solutions remained the stronger operating area. Revenue increased 16 percent, while adjusted EBIT climbed 39 percent to EUR 66 million and the margin improved by 120 basis points to 7.4 percent. Pure-play e-commerce orders more than doubled and represented 61 percent of business solutions orders, according to the transcript.

China footprint is a growth lever

Chief Executive Rob Smith said KION intends to use its Chinese manufacturing footprint more extensively to address value and eco segments in Europe. Management expects this effort to have an impact during 2027. The company also pointed to a strong automation pipeline, although it did not provide a separate 2027 forecast in the call.
