- Johnson & Johnson is presenting new Impella research at the TCT 2026 conference in San Diego.
- The program covers high-risk coronary procedures, cardiogenic shock, heart recovery and next-generation technology.
- The company expects the randomized PROTECT IV trial to add further evidence to the heart-recovery business.
Johnson & Johnson is putting its Impella heart-pump business at the center of the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference in San Diego, where the company has scheduled a record 26 presentations. The program runs through Tuesday, November 3, and covers evidence from high-risk coronary interventions, cardiogenic shock, myocardial recovery, renal perfusion and next-generation technology.
The company announced the program on October 29 in a Johnson & Johnson press release. The release said the research builds on more than two decades of clinical evidence and includes randomized trials, prospective studies, registries and real-world clinical practice.
Clinical Evidence Meets Commercial Pressure
Several presentations are intended to provide additional context for the mixed evidence around Impella-supported high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention. The schedule includes the TRI-GUARD-PCI registry, an analysis of peri-procedural and early post-procedural mortality, and a PROTECT III analysis involving patients with characteristics similar to those in the CHIP-BCIS3 study.
Johnson & Johnson said more than 50,000 Impella patients have been studied and more than 450,000 patients worldwide have been treated with the pumps. Management is also pointing to the broader heart-recovery pipeline, including the PROTECT IV randomized controlled trial, whose results are expected in 2027. That study is important for investors because observational findings can show associations but cannot establish the same treatment effect as a randomized comparison.
Navin Kapur, chief medical and scientific officer of the Heart Recovery business, said the company wants to generate evidence that advances understanding and informs best practices. The statement frames the TCT program as part of a long-term effort to strengthen clinical adoption rather than as a single product update.
